Civic Trust Programmes

The Civic Trust is the leading charity promoting progressive improvement in the quality of the built environment. The Civic Trust runs major national schemes such as:
• The Civic Trust Awards
• The Green Flag Awards
• Heritage Open Days

The Civic Trust also champions design, enterprise and regeneration through its Night Vision and Bizz Fizz programmes.

‘Grass Roots’ Quarterly
‘Grass Roots’ is the Civic Trust’s quarterly newsletter for our Civic Society Members. The newsletter features:
• National and Regional news from the Civic Society movement
• Policy news
• Updates on Civic Trust programmes
• Civic Society Profiles
• Members news and views
• Membership services and special offers.

‘Grass Roots Online’
‘Grass Roots Online’ is a fortnightly e-newsletter bringing you the latest news from the Civic Societies Network straight to your inbox, including:
• Civic Societies in the News
• Policy Updates
• News from other Third Sector organisations
• Events and Workshops
• The hot topics from our online discussion boards
• News from Civic Trust programmes

Membership Helpdesk
The Civic Societies team has a free dedicated membership helpdesk which answers membership queries and provides immediate sign-posting support. The helpdesk can answer queries such as:
• How to register as a charity and company
• How to increase membership
• How to develop new projects
• How to manage your Society

Event Planning Support and Paving the Way
Civic Societies have the opportunities to attend capacity building programmes such as ‘Paving the Way’ designed specifically to strengthen the work of the Civic Societies Movement. Membership also includes:
• Free or discounted attendance at annually run events
• Free event planning support
• Access to free speakers at your local events
• Exclusive invitations of meetings and sector wide events

Organisational Development and Start-Up Support
New societies receive our specially designed starter packs that guide you through forming a society, writing a constitution and registering with the Civic Trust. Existing societies will soon be receiving a membership toolkit providing guidance on governance, management, finance and recruitment

NetSuite Membership database
The Civic Trust is in the process of making its on-line database, NetSuite, available to Civic Societies. NetSuite allows Societies to store a variety of data ranging from contact details to the individual skills of each member, to survey results and event feedback. NetSuite also makes it easy to produce mail merge letters and mass e-mails.

National Policy and Campaign
Being a member of the Civic Trust makes your society part of a louder voice, giving your members the opportunity to develop local issues into national policy and campaigns. Membership of the Civic Trust also gives offers you opportunities to participate in joint sector wide initiatives such as ‘Every Action Counts’.

Discounted Software and Hardware Offers
Civic Trust members are eligible for free Microsoft software through the Charity Technology Trust programme. The Civic Trust can also offer discounted Hewlett Packard hardware through the HP Renew Scheme. Our membership helpdesk can provide more details of these offers. 

Civic Societies Network
The Civic Societies Network is a dynamic online communication tool developed by the Civic Trust exclusively for Civic Societies. Features include:
• Directly influence Civic Trust policy and campaigns via live discussion boards and surveys
• Share and collaborate ideas with other societies
• Upload documents such as minutes and policy statements
• Access a range of support tool kits, daily news and sector wide briefings

Policy Updates
The Civic Trust’s Policy Officer sends out regular e-mail policy updates on relevant policy issues. The most recent policy updates have focused on The Barker Review, the Heritage White Paper and the Planning White Paper.

Media Briefings
Media Briefings from our Media and PR officer contain summaries of the Civic Trust’s major national campaigns including all press coverage and information about how your Society can get involved. Recent media briefings focussed on the Night Vision programme and the Planning Disaster campaign.
